Dozens of Israeli fighter jets flew toward Iran's border on Monday in a large-scale operation intended to demonstrate military power and deter Tehran, Axios reported, citing Israeli and US officials. Fighter jets and refueling aircraft flew more than 800 miles through Syrian and Iraqi airspace before turning back near Iran. Israel reportedly notified Washington in advance, describing the mission as a training exercise to deter an Iranian attack ahead of Israel's October 27 elections. Some US sources suggested Israel may have hoped Iran would fire at the aircraft, potentially providing justification for Israeli strikes.
